the prologue

the harmony of rhythm

the simple truth is this

it’s all been said before

the value of a verse

must come from something more

more than mere expression

or conscious thought designed

in esoteric patterns

conceived by brilliant minds

a poem is not an ink blot

or literary test

it’s lines that stir the reader

which are remembered best

for poetry is passion

a prelude to romance

whose syncopated measures

invite the soul to dance

this requires music

beyond the word or rhyme

a harmony of rhythm

to help the song keep time

some may think it ‘old school’

a relic of this art

but little else may serve as well

to wake one’s sleeping heart
