the holiday perspective

December 23, 2013

there’s a single bright star
in a dark winter sky
and the snow
seems aglow
to a youthful mind’s eye

where the memories live
of those holidays past
of those dreams
and those schemes
we so often outlast

those great aims of our youth
fed by immortal souls
whose fires
inspired
such magnificent goals

though we think them long gone
while we toil in strife
they remain
and sustain
our desire for life

part astronaut cowboy
part queen ballerina
forever
endeavors
in our full-grown arena

and celebrates for us
with an unbridled joy
at the sights
and the lights
at the trees and the toys

with that holiday gift
of renewal, a fresh start
a hunger
and younger
in perspective and heart
